Favorite January artist

I’ve been on a Christian R&B kick lately, and one artist I can’t stop listening to is Sondae (suhn-day).

Sondae’s voice has a unique texture, with the right touch of raspiness that’s reassuring enough to let us know every note is him sharing his truest self with us —each song feeling and sounding like a sincere, heartfelt letter to God.

There’s also a dreamy quality to his music that makes it feel like you’re floating in a space between reality and imagination. His sound is grounded yet otherworldly, allowing you to vibe and reflect simultaneously.

When it comes to his music videos, he takes an unconventional approach. Each video plays in a loop, mirroring the cyclical nature of the human experience, from repetitive thoughts we can’t shake to the way our emotions get caught in cycles. It’s these qualities that give Sondae depth and range.

To me, Sondae uses his artistry to paint a vivid and honest picture of the human experience, speaking to the complexities of wrestling with the flesh and our new nature. And if you’re not already tuned in, now’s the time to catch up.

My current favorites are as follows, in no particular order:
